Concrete Repair and Rehabilitation of Salt Works Jetty, Jamnagar, Gujarat
A unique structure of about 245 metres long with a berth of 61 metres located in a remote area.
Direct and continuous exposure of the jetty structure to the sea water and air resulted in
high deterioration and corrosion of the jetty.
Rehabilitation of the jetty involved coating the entire exposed concrete surface with a high-performance
anti-corrosive coating, repairing the concrete using high strength, self curing, structural repair
mortars, polyurethane injection grout for strengthening of the carbonated concrete and finally, an acrylic
protective coating. This project was completed in a record period of three months.
Step 1:
Remove loose concrete and expose the steel
Step 2:
Buff the steel with grinders to remove the scales of rust
Step 3:
Apply the rust converter and after 24 hours again buff the steel with grinders to remove the residual rust
Step 4:
Clean the entire substrate with water jet
Step 5:
Apply high performance, anti-corrosive coating AB COR 926 LV on rebars
Step 6:
Weld new steel where corrosion is more than 25%
Step 7:
Weld the old and new steel
Step 8:
AB POX 002, an epoxy based primer, is applied on the concrete as a bond coat
Step 9:
Apply MortaRep SuperStrong, a spray-applied repair mortar with self-curing properties
Step 10:
Thickness is built up in a single layer
Step 11:
Inject Polyurethane (PUR) Grout 3011 to strengthen the concrete
Step 12:
The finish after application of repair mortar
Step 13:
Apply high-performance AB COR 971 acrylic coating
Step 14:
Final finish of the repaired jetty
